First To File – Electronic File Room Security

At First To File, we take the security of our customer’s data and IP very seriously and have developed an application and hosting architecture that meets or exceeds our customer’s existing security requirements.

First To File services are hosted solutions or SaaS-based. We’ve invested millions of dollars in leading edge technology and best practices to make our service safe and secure as is technically possible today.

We even went so far as to subject our service to a SAS70 II audit and pass the audit with an unqualified opinion. In fact, we’re the first and only patent document management service to do so. To learn more about the SAS70 II audit you can read more at www.sas70.com.

In short, SAS 70 is an internationally recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. A SAS 70 audit is performed by an independent auditing firm and examines the controls and processes involved in storing, handling, and transmitting data securely. The successful completion of the voluntary audit illustrates First to File’s continued commitment to create and maintain the most stringent controls for the protection and security of its customers’ confidential information.

We’ve also taken the added step of conforming to and being certified for Safe Harbor data privacy compliance.

The U.S. Department of Commerce developed the Safe Harbor framework working closely with the European Commission to meet the data privacy requirements that have been mandated by the European Commission. The European Commission developed a directive regarding data protection that prohibits the transfer of personal data to non-European Union nations that do not meet the European standard for data and privacy protection.

So, feel free to call us and ask us about how we can protect your organizations patent documents and knowledge - perhaps even more so than they are today. We’ll be happy to walk you through our security architecture and best practices around:

  • Physical Security
  • System Security
  • Application Security
  • Network Security
  • Data Security and Redundancy
  • Social Best Practices
  • Safe Harbor – European data privacy compliant
